This past week we planted the new vegetable beds! By we, I mean myself, our gardenshare partner Kirsten and my friend Char, who was visiting from Phoenix. It felt good to do some actual physical work and I think (hope) we will have a great harvest come the fall. (how 1800s farmer-ish did that just sound?) We planted squash, beans, peas, corn (blue!), potatoes, carrots, alpine strawberries, eggplant, beets, several varieties of tomatoes and several herbs. I think there are some other things in there, but my brain couldn't keep it all in. I have great hopes for the garden as we encountered tons of big, fat worms during the digging process and I think the location will receive just the right amount of sunlight, but we'll see...The chattering of the neighbor's chickens lent the event a certain farm quality while we were working which was an added bonus. Next up: creating a better compost system. Last year we had some ratty visitors which really freaked me out. I have a plan but we'll see if I can convince The Brit!
blue corn! too cool. i will add that to my list for next year. this year i'm just sticking with silver queen.
